Adam Moilanen is Vice President and Chief Surveyor for ABS. He is responsible for the technical leadership and for directing consistent implementation of classification and statutory survey, audit, and material/equipment verification services, as well as managing effective implementation of the Rules, Regulations, and policies related to classification and statutory matters worldwide. Previously, Moilanen served as ABS Vice President of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE), responsible for directing the company-wide HSQE Management System program.
Prior to that, he served as President and COO of the ABS Greater China Division based in Shanghai. Moilanen joined ABS in 1989 as a Field Surveyor and has served in several leadership positions such as Regional Vice President, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff, as well as operational oversight for countries in the Americas and Asia.
He is a retired Naval Reserve Commander, completing 28 years of service. Moilanen is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and the U.S. Reserve Officers Association. Moilanen is certified as an ISO 9001 and 14001 Lead Auditor and ISO 45001 Internal Auditor, is a Certified Safety Professional, and is an ABS Corporate Officer.
Moilanen earned a bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering Technology from the California Maritime Academy and an MBA from Texas A&M University.
